This service often leads on from my cleaning or gardening services, as the client builds trust in me and we form a solid and positive relationship. I am also happy to supplement any existing care provision, which is often too brief for effective communication and comprehensive understanding of family history and personal interests. This may be within in the person’s home, semi-independent living or care home.
I can provide conversation around the client’s key interests, emotional support, looking at/sorting old family photographs together, re-arranging cupboards or clothes, arts and crafts therapy, etc. I can also take people on trips to the shops, cinema, a walk in the park, a visit to the G.P. or Hospital appointment, or anything else that the client would like to or needs to do, and is beneficial for their overall well-being. Food management, nutritional advice and controlled/receipted cash disbursement are also available.
I have a good understanding and experience of memory related issues including various forms of Dementia, together with other illnesses/diseases, mental health issues and physical disabilities. I am patient, understanding and a good listener. I am currently undertaking a Level 2 Diploma in Adult Care in order to address the increasing and wider needs of my clients. I am also trained in a number of areas within the companionship/care arena including Food Safety and Hygiene, Food Allergy Awareness, Manual Handling, Fire Safety Awareness, Fire Extinguisher Awareness, and Safe Moving and Handling of People – please see my training certificates at the bottom of this page.
I am patient, understanding, empathic and a good listener. I am trained in a number of areas within companionship/care, as detailed at the bottom of this page under “Training and Qualifications”.
My rate within the borough of Luton on weekdays is £18.00 an hour for work within the client’s home (private residence or care home) and for any medical related liaison such as Chiropodist, medical practice, physiotherapist, etc; and £21.00 an hour for trips outside of the home whether on foot or in my car for exercise, shopping or medical appointments etc (plus a mileage allowance of £0.50 per mile when driving). Surcharges apply for any client’s residence beyond a 6 mile radius and/or 20 minute travelling time from my home, also for any required weekend work – please see my Terms, Conditions and Policies page for further details. If an update document is required after each visit - to be provided to the client’s Power of Attorney, family member or advocate - the standard charge of £10.00 per update/visit applies. These detailed updates take around 30 minutes to produce. However if there is additional medical related work to be included within the update document e.g. after a complex medical appointment, then that aspect of the update will be charged for at the £18.00 an hour rate.
Dee and me enjoying one of our weekly Companionship visits. This service was arranged by her wonderfully organised sister, shortly after I started cleaning for Dee.
Me and the lovely Nancy having a laugh in “companionship hour”.
Nancy has a very caring daughter who looks after her well and ensures she has every mod-con!
